Pastor's Message Spring, 2008
Easter came early this year. March 23 is one of the earliest possible dates for Easter Sunday.
We got up at
Despite the temperature, we decided to begin our service outside in the cold and darkness. After hearing the greeting, “we gather as the church to pray and to watch for the dawning of His triumph and resurrection,” we watched the lighting of the Paschal candle that led us from the dark into the warm and lighted sanctuary.
For me, that experience parallels the many times we find ourselves “out in the cold” or “in the dark,” and we yearn for something to change our fortune. The
Easter came early this year, but at just the perfect moment for all who wait on the Risen Lord.
Reverend Karen Dize
A graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington
D.C., the Reverend Karen Dize has served Calvary United
Methodist Church, along with its sister church, Wye of
Carmichael since July of 2002. Prior to that she served
as a pastoral intern at Christ United Methodist Church.
A former teacher, Pastor Karen taught French and
English at neighboring Kent Co. High School.
She is married to Ben Dize, a former Kent Co. teacher
who has been teaching at Gunston Day School since 1999.
They have two sons, Noah, who lives in NYC, and Matthew, who lives in Chester.
She sees her work as a pastor as encouraging the
people of the church to live out the gospel of Jesus
Christ in their everyday lives to offer material and
spiritual nourishment, and to pass on the faith.
In her spare time, Pastor Karen loves being outdoors,
traveling, and physical activity.
